Photoshop Color Management for Web and iPhone... →
This is a great overview and good refresher for anyone doing web design and iPhone design work within Photoshop. If you’ve upgraded recently to CS4, it may be worthwhile to check your settings.

Instapaper: It's the little things…
There are many things I appreciate about the incredible design practices of Marco’s Instapaper but I have to admit it’s the little things that mean so much. It may be subtle at first but that’s exactly as it should be. Take for instance the page marker in Instapaper 2.0.
Marco described how arrived at the new paging option but what delighted me is when I noticed the page...

The State is like anything you end up loving. At first you don’t really know if it’s funny or not, then you think about it over time, and then it becomes the best thing.

Speed Up with CSS3 Gradients →
Interesting idea that isn’t too helpful just yet since it’s only worthwhile for Firefox 3.6.

Closeness of Actions and Objects →
Things I learned from reading Jacob’s post on this:
Jacob has a friggin’ huge display.
He likes to maximize utility apps, like iTunes, perhaps just to prove a point.
Jacob sometimes makes good points.
He likes pointing out usability issues more than offering up suggested solutions. That would be more interesting to me. (See Tog for more.)
All this aside, I have to agree, not one...

Robert Culp Passes Away at the Age of 79 →
Sad news today. I’ve been a fan of Robert Culp ever since The Greatest American Hero. I knew of his work on I Spy but that was a little bit before my time. What’s strange is I’ve been watching old Columbo shows on Netflix and was impressed by Robert Culp’s appearances. I was somewhat surprised to see him show up as different characters in different shows. Apparently, he...

Instapaper Blog: Preview: Instapaper on iPad →
I’m probably supposed to keep this secret and build everyone’s anticipation to hype this up. Oh well. Maybe I’ll do that for the Instapaper edition for Apple’s next revolutionary computing platform.
First: Instapaper is definitely coming to iPad.
Second: Instapaper is coming to iPad very soon. Possibly even on day one — yes, I’m going for it — but that’s optimistic.
Marco is definitely a...

Changing Tumblr Name Repercussions?
Does anyone know what happens if I change my Tumblr name? Do links to my old Tumblr name break or go to the new name?

I admit that I tear up a little every time I watch this scene. Now being a father makes it even tougher.

Shades of Blue to Shades of Green →
Microsoft also tested multiple versions of blue for links in their search results. A specific color of blue (#0044CC) drove $80-$100 million dollars a year increase over the light blue the design team tried first.
For those curious of what the awesome hex color translates to:
Bet you want to click that color so bad right now, don’t you? Maybe I should throw up some AdWords on it.
Sure, I...

Speaking of Donnie Darko →
I’ve always wondered what made Donnie Darko what it became. If it was a some wild stroke of luck, if Richard Kelly sapped up all traces of perfect editorial mojo with his first foray, if the films that came after were too harshly judged because of the fame of the first outing, or if Donnie was the only film that brought it all together in a palatable way. The reality, of course, is probably...

Excerpt from Macalope Weekly…
MACALOPE: Oh, man, don’t you hate that? Anyway, maybe you haven’t noticed, but the Macalope’s actually been fairly positive about Windows Phone… whatever it is.
WINOTAUR: Windows Phone Series 7! Sheesh! It’s not that hard!
MACALOPE: …
WINOTAUR: Wait, that’s… not right. It’s um… [reading] Windows. Phone. 7. Series. Windows Phone 7 Series.

WebKitBits: Customizable Themes with CSS3 and... →
We recently released a new product that allows you to quickly build out a mobile site for your web site. There were a bunch of great features available in WebKit’s implementation of CSS3 that we made use of but there were two standout features I really wanted to cover.
First, we wanted to create a tab menu button…

This is exactly the sort of thing I would see at some bar and if I looked over at it, I would get totally entranced by it. Look away. Look away! Posted via email from George’s posterous | Comment »

I was lucky enough to attend one of Tufte’s presentations in the late 90’s. What an amazing person that truly inspires you especially if you’re a designer. It’s great to see him be appointed to help the White House.
